St. Mark’s: The Living Creche

Giddy Up Ranch assisted St. Mark’s Episcopal in creating a live nativity scene outside the church. It wasn’t a first time for either of us, having provided service for the same event in the past. Last year, we brought our camel to accent the sheep and goats in the main petting zoo area. Organizers chose our llama, Precious, to be featured in the 2011 version that took place last Friday.

Aside from our contribution, the Church was festive with food and song. Both Children and adults donned costumes to fit the theme, and before we knew it, our petting zoo was packed full of little angels and wise men.

Our zoo was set up on Brand Boulevard, outside on the front lawn. It was a can’t miss for commuters on their way home from work, and a real eye opener for those strolling the sidewalk and never expecting to run into a llama, donkey or any other farm animal on this day.

We thank the St. Mark’s organizers for their help and courtesy, and hopefully we’ll see them again next year.

Merry Christmas to you all, from Giddy Up Ranch.

Who says pigs are repulsive?

You can eat like a pig or even keep your room like a pig sty. Any reference to the animal is usually intended to be negative and should never be taken as a compliment. But that somehow has a reverse effect at Giddy Up Ranch, where the pig is easily the petting zoo favorite.

Our pot bellied pigs are more than mud wallowing squealers. Their popularity is indicative of the change in perception that comes with witnessing the sus domestica up close. What was thought to be repulsive and held in a negative light, suddenly commands a more favorable group of descriptive words, such as—-cute, adorable, and sweet.

How popular is the pig? So popular that Howie Mandel felt the need to purchase one, after seeing the little critter romp around the petting zoo at the Glendale Americana. It had to come as a surprise to his co-workers filming on set in area, when their star steps out for a cup of Starbucks coffee and returns with a pot belly pig.

Howie doesn’t stand alone in his appreciation for the creature often mislabeled as grotesque. Oscar winning Actress Reese Witherspoon didn’t stumble upon our pig by chance. She made the trip to Giddy Up Ranch for the sole purpose of purchasing one.

Our pot bellies are available for public purchase, but are subject to supply and demand. We certainly won’t leave or zoos void of its star performer, so availability is dependent on numbers, and the price will vary accordingly.

If you aren’t one to purchase a pig or have never seen one up close, you are always welcome to visit our petting zoos at the Glendale Americana on Saturdays and the Brentwood Country mart each Sunday. And of course, we can always deliver the pig and his friends to your front door, with rentals available for parties and events. Just choose from one of the easy and affordable mobile petting zoo packages, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Jack and Jill

Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” is now in theaters. If you’ve already seen it, you know it also stars Katie Holmes and David Spade. What you may not know is that is also features animals from Giddy Up Ranch.

Our ponies and petting zoo were used in the making of this motion picture. Our very own “Patches” in the pony seen in the above photograph, and that is our little piggy and alpaca captured in the video below.

Giddy Up is no stranger to Sandler, who has used our service for both business and private parties. So when you see the movie, remember that those animals on the screen are also available for your events. It’s all just a phone call away.
